ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Synzi, a leading virtual care company, has announced that George C. Grape Community Hospital (Grape), will be using its virtual care communication platform to deliver remote medical care to its community significantly affected by recent flooding in southwest Iowa.

“As Grape is instrumental to the health of this community, the Synzi platform gives medical staff the ability to maintain the continuity of care while helping reduce unnecessary travel for patients and staff, wherever possible.”Tweet this

Patients at Grape can benefit from access to the innovative virtual care technology made possible through an initial pilot program provided by Synzi. Grape medical staff can use Synzi’s virtual care platform and its comprehensive video, email, text, and secure messaging capabilities to conveniently care for patients as the area recovers from the natural disaster.

“We are dedicated to continue providing care to our patients even though the flooding has greatly impacted some of our hospital’s staff ability to drive to and from our facility. With Synzi’s platform, Grape Hospital is very appreciative that we will be able to communicate with our patients and ensure the continuity of care during this challenging time,” said Grape Hospital CEO, Mike O'Neal.

After the onset of the flooding in March, the Hamburg, Iowa hospital had transferred all acute and skilled patients to neighboring facilities. In addition, the hospital had to work with the State of Iowa to provide portable water to keep the facility operating. The hospital's home health, physical and operational therapy services continued to operate, and its emergency services were also able to continue functioning 24/7.

Synzi’s award-winning communication platform leverages everyday devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops to help healthcare organizations provide leading-edge, cost-contained, patient-centric care. Grape’s initial platform deployment was executed in late May and enables hospital staff to use multi-way video to conduct virtual visits with patients and additional participants such as a colleague, family member, and/or a pharmacist.

“By implementing a virtual care solution, Grape Hospital is determined to continue caring for its community who have lost so much and are trying to recover and return to their new normal,” said Lee Horner, CEO of Synzi. “As Grape is instrumental to the health of this community, the Synzi platform gives medical staff the ability to maintain the continuity of care while helping reduce unnecessary travel for patients and staff, wherever possible.”

Since the March flooding, the city of Hamburg has been able to restore their water-treatment facility and the hospital has been able to reconnect to city water. The Outpatient Clinics and Surgeries continue to be staffed and operate as normal.

Grape can also use the Synzi platform to schedule a series of appointments with their patients and send appointment reminders via phone, secure messaging, or email – depending on their patients’ preferred communication channels. With the platform, staff can also program a series of patient-directed messages promoting medication adherence, diet and lifestyle guidance, and general healthcare tips.
